Categories group related articles into the top-level sections your customers browse on the public Help Center. Every article belongs to exactly one category.
Create a category from Help Center — open your Help Center and click New topic in the sidebar. The editor calls categories topics, and a category inside another one a subtopic.

Categories vs. articles

Categories are lightweight — they exist only to organize articles.

Edit a category

Open the category’s ⋯ menu in the sidebar and choose Edit to change its name, icon and description. Changes are live immediately — no draft, no publish step. What you edit is the language the sidebar is showing:
  • In the primary language, the other languages are re-translated from the new name and description in the background.
  • In any other language, only that translation changes. It is kept as you wrote it from then on, even when the primary name changes later. Re-translate from source in the same menu writes it again from the primary language.

Reorder

Drag categories in the sidebar to reorder. The public Help Center navigation reflects your order; search and the AI are not affected. You can also drag a category into another one to nest it, or drag articles between categories. By default a move made in one language is made in every language: the category or article lands at the end of its new place in the others, and stays where it is in any language where it was already there. Reordering within the same place only changes the language you are viewing. Turn off Moves apply to every language in Settings → General to arrange each language on its own; the API and the Companion can also choose per move with scope.

Delete

Deleting a category that still holds content asks what to do with it: move it to another category (the default — articles keep their addresses and the AI keeps training on them) or delete everything in it too. Either way the confirmation toast offers Undo, which brings the category back with whatever was deleted along with it.

Good to know

Articles belong to exactly one category. If the same content fits two places, link to it from the second category’s article list or write a short cross-reference article.
Category names and descriptions translate automatically when a new language is enabled. Manual overrides work the same way as articles — see Translations.
Unlike articles, a category’s name and description update the public site instantly. Pick the name you want to ship — there’s no preview step.

Articles

Write and publish the content that goes inside categories.

Translations

Multi-language for category names, descriptions, and articles.
