# Delete a contact segment

> Delete a contact segment through the public API with segment write permission. Learn the request fields, responses, and membership behavior.

Requires `segments:write`.

Deletes the definition and its stored memberships, retaining contacts. Returns 204 with no body, or 404 if the segment does not exist in your organization. References in other configurations are not rewritten; review them before deletion.
